Oct 29, 2026 | Business Tax

If your business operates in Maryland, you may be eligible for a $300 waiver of your Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT) Annual Report Filing Fee through MarylandSaves. Here’s what you need to know:

Qualifications for the Waiver

To qualify, your business must:

  1. Be registered to conduct business in Maryland and be in good standing with SDAT.
  2. Have employees and offer a qualifying retirement plan or participate in MarylandSaves. Qualified retirement plans include:
    1. 401(k) – or other 401(a) plan
    2. 403(a) – qualified annuity plan
    3. 403(b) – tax-sheltered annuity plan
    4. 408(k) – SEP plan
    5. 408(p) SIMPLE IRA plan
    6. 457(b) governmental deferred compensation plan
  3. Have made at least one payroll-deducted contribution to an employee’s retirement account during 2026.

How to Claim the Waiver

If your business offers its own qualifying retirement plan, visit MarylandSaves.org and complete the waiver request form at the bottom of the page.

If your business participates in MarylandSaves and is making payroll contributions for employees, you do not need to complete this form. MarylandSaves will automatically provide your qualification information to SDAT.

Businesses offering their own qualifying retirement plans must complete the waiver request form annually to continue receiving the benefit.

Important Deadline

To qualify for the 2027 SDAT Annual Report Filing Fee Waiver, you must submit the form by December 31, 2026. Forms received after this date will qualify for the 2028 waiver instead.

The waiver applies to the filing fee only. Businesses must still complete their required annual filings.

A Note for SEK Clients

SEK has proactively begun submitting waiver requests on behalf of our payroll clients who may qualify. You can check whether your business’s waiver has already been submitted by reviewing the 2027 list of qualified businesses.

While our team is taking steps to assist clients with this process, it is ultimately your responsibility to ensure your waiver is submitted by December 31, 2026, to receive the benefit.
